Reading Skills are the building blocks of your child's future. Let's Build them Together!
SKILL-BASED TUTORING
Decoding (D) x Language Comprehension (LC) = Reading Comprehension (RC)

Decoding (D): Efficient word recognition for familiar and unfamiliar words in text (Hoover & Gough, 1990; Gough & Tunmer, 1986). Language Comprehension (LC): Understanding spoken words in context, including vocabulary, grammar, and discourse (Catts, Adlof, & Weismer, 2006). Reading Comprehension (RC): Understanding written text, involving word recognition and deriving meaning from print (Hoover & Gough, 1990).
I am dedicated to enhancing your child’s reading abilities through structured literacy instruction. Together, we will collaborate to achieve mastery and build a strong foundation for reading success. I believe in a methodical approach that combines live tutoring sessions with independent practice at home, ensuring consistent reinforcement of taught concepts and active application between sessions.
Specifically, I focus on:
- Teaching skills in isolation: Introducing and explaining each concept clearly.
- Reinforcing learning through practice opportunities: Providing structured activities to reinforce skills.
- Observing and affirming independent use of skills: Monitoring progress and encouraging the application of learned concepts.
My goal is to support your child’s reading journey with a structured and supportive approach, leading to lasting success.

PERONALIZED LEARNING
Orton-Gillingham (OG) effectively teaches struggling readers word-level skills and decoding through structured literacy. In Zoom sessions, I tailor learning to enhance letter recognition and decoding. Guided by OG principles, I nurture a supportive environment that celebrates individual strengths and fosters a positive reading mindset.
Targeted Instruction
Targeted instruction develops students’ word-identification skills through structured literacy, emphasizing sound blending and letter-sound knowledge. This includes accurately recognizing letters, retrieving corresponding sounds, holding them in memory, blending them, and using contextual and phonetic clues to understand word meaning for reading fluency.
STRUCTURED LITERACY
Key aspects of Orton- Gillingham include:
- Step-by-step approach aligned with children’s language development.
- Phonemic Awareness: Students learn to recognize speech sounds represented by letters or combinations.
- Mastery-Based Learning: Students master each reading skill before advancing.
In my Teaching
* I provide immediate corrective feedback on decoding errors, emphasizing attention to print rather than guessing.
*I offer decoding tips to assist with unfamiliar words. I assess comprehension through targeted questions.
